New Members
Each year, the Junior League of Greater Springfield (JLGS) offers a New Member Course during which our new members have the opportunity
to learn about the JLGS and our mission of community support and service.

Responsibilities of New Members include:
- Pay annual membership dues ($140, which covers New Member class and first active year)
- Attend new member training (generally 4-5 sessions over the course of the League Year)
- Attend general membership meetings (fourth Tuesday of each month from September through May) during new member period
- Participate in one league fundraising activity
- Participate in the New Member project, which is determined by each class
Active MembersActive Members are those women who, having successfully completed the New Member class, are now trained volunteers, working in the community, helping to raise and disburse funds back to the community, and helping with the internal functions and organization of the league.

Senior Active MembersSenior Active Members are those women who has been an active member of the Junior League for five years (excluding leaves of absence or sabbaticals).

Sustaining Members
Sustainers are former Active members who have completed at least seven years of active service. Sustainers have no official requirements aside from annual dues ($90 for sustainers under the age of 65, $60 for sustainers age 65 and over) but often participate by assisting a committee or placement with their advice and experience.

Executive Council
The Executive Council is responsible for overall governance of the league. The council engages in long-range planning, and establishes and maintains strategic plans. The council is responsible for compliance with the league’s charter, bylaws, and existing policies.
Community Council
The Community Council provides oversight of and support to existing community service projects, monitors community issues and needs, and evaluates and develops new projects.
Communications Council
The Communications Council is responsible for all of the internal communications for the JLGS. This includes member newsletter(s), both printed and electronic; members-only communications campaigns and invitations; the members-only portion of the website; and photography.

The Membership Council is responsible for increasing active membership and provide meaningful training to all new members. The council attempts to achieve a high retention rate for active membership per year while increasing sustainer involvement.
Finance Council
The Finance Council ensures the financial success and well-being of JLGS, promotes understanding of basic nonprofit finance concepts to JLGS membership, and maintain a successful JLGS annual budget and forecast process.

- Placement Advisor - Communicates placement opportunities to members, counsels members, as to placement satisfaction. Assures that members meet volunteerism requirements.
- Nominating Chair - Prepares slate of candidates for election of the executive committee. Submits candidates for Area positions. Recommends candidates for conferences and seminars. Members should have broad league experience prior to nominating; this position is usually given to the immediate Past President. Members are not eligible for an executive position during their term.
- New Member Chair - Plans and directs the education and training course for all new members to ensure that they are committed to volunteerism and community service and have an understanding of the league's background, foundation, goals and objectives.
Finance Council

- Assistant Treasurer - The chief financial officer of the league, she shall have the care and custody of all funds and securities of the league. She shall be responsible for a monthly report of the financial condition of the league.
