Message from the President:
I am honored to announce that the Junior League of Greater Springfield has successfully reached our fundraising goal of $30,000, and is able to provide the funds needed to renovate a room in The Ronald MacDonald House in Springfield. In 1984, five members of the Junior League of Springfield's Provisional Class, researched and documented the need for a Ronald McDonald House to service pediatric needs in the Springfield area. They, along with other community organizations, raised over $1.2 million dollars to build and fund the Ronald MacDonald House. As with any property, over the years things need to be updated, renovated and refurbished. Last year we were presented with an opportunity by JLGS Sustaining members and Chairs of the RMH, Craig Carr. They were ready to lead another ambitious project, raising $30,000. to renovate a room in the house. The goals of the project was to make sure that the house was fully handicapped accessible and paint and renovate each room. The total cost for this project was $750,000. In less than a year, with Craig Carr and Roberta Bulduc heading the fundraising efforts, the goal of $30,000. was accomplished. On Sunday, January 28th, our active members participated in a " Done in a Day" ( DIAD) at the Ronald McDonald house. The afternoon started with a tour of the 21 room facility led by JLGS Sustainer, Meg Beturne. A large dinner was prepared for the 24 patients and families residing at the RMH. For many of our actives, this was the first time that they were able to see the inside of the house and all that has been done since its inception. It was an inspiring afternoon for all to see. I am very proud to be able to share this news with everyone. I thank you for your participation and efforts. |
