The Little Red Bookshelf
The Little Red Bookshelf is a signature Junior League of Greater Springfield program dedicated to promoting literacy and access to books for children in our community.
Launched in January of 2017, The JLGS Little Red Bookshelf program circulates new and gently-used children’s books back into the greater Springfield community where they are made available free for families to own.
Working in collaboration with the Davis Foundation and Reading Success by 4th Grade, the Junior League has established 6 bookshelf locations within the community and are seeking to grow and mobilize our outreach.
To date, JLGS members have collected and bookplated thousands of books. We host an annual spring drive with Reader to Reader, and collect from community donors year round.
This initiative reflects our commitment to supporting early literacy and creating opportunities for every child to build a love of reading.
