In the spring of 2005, Junior League members voted in favor of establishing a Junior League Scholarship. The Junior League will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to one graduating female high school senior in the Greater Springfield area who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in voluntarism and community service.
The Junior League of Greater Springfield will award a $1,000 scholarship
to one female graduating senior who have demonstrated outstanding achievement
in volunteer and community service. Applicants must currently attend a
public, private, or parochial high school in one of the following cities/towns:
Agawam, Chicopee, East Longmeadow, Hampden, Holyoke, Longmeadow, Ludlow,
Springfield, West Springfield, South Hadley and Wilbraham.
Eligibility requirements
and criteria are as follows:

Applicant must be female.

Applicant must attend school in one of the cities/towns
listed above.

Applicant must submit essay on volunteer experience.

Applicant must plan to attend a two-year or four-year
college program and provide written verification of college acceptance
upon request.

If eligibility status changes and recipient does
not continue education, scholarship money must be returned to the
Junior League of Greater Springfield.
Founded in 1901, the Junior League is an organization of women committed
to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving
communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. The Junior League
reaches out to women of all races, religions, and national origins who
demonstrate an interest in and commitment to voluntarism.

Applications must be postmarked on or before April 3, 2008 and mailed

Letters of recommendation must be postmarked on or before
April 3, 2008 and mailed to the address above. Only neatly written or
typed applications will be accepted. Applicants are responsible for
completing and submitting all forms as requested.
Each application will be considered by a committee made
up of members of the Junior League of Greater Springfield. Children
of Junior League members will not be considered for this scholarship.
The scholarships will be presented at the Junior League's
May 27, 2008 general membership meeting. Recipients must attend to receive
their award.
